Automation Repair Services in Raleigh, NC

A controller fails on a validated line in Wake County. The purchasing path to a modern equivalent takes a week; the path back to full production takes far longer, because that equivalent is not the unit named in the validation package, and change control does not care how fast the box arrived.

IVS Incorporated exists for exactly that gap: we repair the original hardware and return it tested to specification, so the floor still matches the documentation.

The Research Triangle's Manufacturing Floor

Raleigh anchors one of the country's most concentrated life sciences manufacturing regions. Pharmaceutical and biologics production has expanded across Wake, Johnston and Durham counties, with fill-finish operations, bioreactor suites, purification trains and packaging lines running under strict process control.

Research Triangle Park and the corridor around it host the research operations feeding those plants, along with contract manufacturers and analytical instrument makers. The base runs wider than life sciences: electronics and semiconductor operations, medical device manufacturing, advanced materials producers, precision machining shops and food production all operate across the Triangle. The common thread is documentation, in plants where an undocumented change is a bigger problem than a broken part.

Repair Versus Requalification on a Validated Line

On a regulated production line the automation is part of the validated state. The drive model, controller platform, firmware revision, motor and feedback pairing and interface configuration are captured in qualification documentation, and the process was demonstrated under control with that specific hardware installed. Substituting a platform is a change, and a change means impact assessment, protocol writing, execution, review and approval before the line can produce releasable material again.

A like-for-like repair does not open that door. The same unit, same part number, same revision goes back into the same cabinet, and the validated configuration is unchanged. That is why regulated manufacturers keep repairing hardware a non-regulated plant would have replaced years ago.

Where Raleigh Production Lines Lose Time

  • Drive and servo faults on filling and packaging lines. Overcurrent and overtemperature trips on the drives running fillers, cappers, labelers and case packers, where a stop mid-batch can put product at risk as well as schedule.
  • Controller and I/O failures in process suites. Failed input and output modules, communication dropouts and depleted memory backup batteries on the controllers sequencing bioreactor, purification and clean-in-place operations.
  • Positioning drift on precision axes. Encoder and resolver problems that let a servo axis move out of tolerance quietly, producing deviations before anything registers as a fault.
  • Motor insulation and bearing wear. Winding degradation and bearing failure on pumps, agitators, blowers and conveyors, often first visible as rising current draw rather than a hard stop.
  • Operator interface failures. Dead backlights, unresponsive touch panels and lost connectivity that leave an otherwise healthy process without a control window.

Five Steps From Failed Unit to Working Spare

  1. Send the unit to Plymouth. Ship the failed hardware to our Michigan facility with the nameplate details and a note on how the fault presented on the line.
  2. We evaluate it at no cost. Our technicians find the root cause and tell you what actually failed, with no charge and no obligation to proceed.
  3. You get the quote in writing. Before any work starts you receive a written price and an honest recommendation on whether the unit is worth restoring.
  4. Repair, then prove it. After approval we complete the work and run the unit through full functional testing on the bench, including feedback alignment where motion is involved.
  5. It ships back under guarantee. The restored unit returns to you covered by a 12-month in-service guarantee on parts and workmanship.

Product Lines Our Bench Covers

  • Controllers and PLCs — processors, I/O modules, racks and power supplies from Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon, GE and others.
  • Drives and VFDs — AC and DC drives, servo drives, spindle drives, inverters, amplifiers and power supplies.
  • Motors and servos — AC and DC motor repair and rewinds, servo motor work, gearboxes and linear actuators.
  • HMIs and operator panels — touchscreen and overlay replacement, LCD upgrades, backlights, keypads and inverters.

To catch problems before they reach change control, our engineers recommend the field guide to PLC troubleshooting and maintenance and the walkthrough on how to test a servo motor, for lines where positioning accuracy is a quality attribute.

What Sets IVS Apart for Raleigh Plants

  • Like-for-like restoration. The same part number and revision goes back into the cabinet, so your validated configuration stays exactly as documented.
  • Three decades of specialisation. Over thirty years working on industrial automation and electronic equipment, not general electronics repair.
  • Hardware nobody else will touch. We routinely restore controllers and drives that manufacturers have discontinued and distributors can no longer supply.
  • Tested before it leaves. Every repair is functionally verified on the bench and backed by a 12-month in-service guarantee.
